FAQs

How Do I Get A Library Card For The First Time?

The Kenai Community Library offers FREE library cards for people living in Alaska who are not already registered for a library card in the  Alaska Library Catalog system, and who can provide the required documents listed below.

To obtain a Library card you must present a valid photo ID (such as a drivers license, a state identification card, passport, etc...) to the Kenai Community Library front desk, fill out a card application form,  as well as provide proof of an Alaskan mailing address (2 pieces of current mail addressed to the applicant).

If you do not have 2 pieces of mail you can opt to have the card mailed to you instead. Until you receive the library card in the mail you will be unable to checkout items from the library. However, you can still use the collection in-house, checkout study rooms, access our public computers, or use our iPads during normal library hours.

Does The Library Provide Internet Access? How Do I Connect To The Internet?

The Kenai Community Library has multiple ways for our patrons to access the internet. You do not need to be a library card holder to access our internet as we offer guest passes for our public computers as well as open access Wi-Fi for any Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Internet access is available during our normal hours of operation. Our Wi-Fi is available in-house only and does not extend into the parking areas. Within the library there are 10 iPads available for public use on a first-come-first-serve basis that include an internet browsing feature. Our 9 public computers are also internet accessible and can be reserved using a library card or a guest pass obtainable at the library front desk.

Laptops can also be checked out for in-house use by patrons with a valid library card in good standing, upon signing a 'Laptop User Agreement Form'.

All public computers and laptops will automatically shut down 15min before the library closes.

What Is My PIN Number?

Your PIN number is a 4 digit number that works as a password. It allows you to access your library member information so you can renew items online, place holds on items, check item due dates, and more. If you forget your PIN, or don't remember being assigned one, you can have a librarian reassign you one either in person or over the phone. Be sure to have your library card on hand when you come in, or call, since the librarian will need information from your card to reassign a PIN.

Your Library PIN is default set as the last 4 digits of your card's bar code number. You can change your PIN at any time by logging into the Library Catalog.

  • Click on the "My Account" button in the top right corner of the screen
  • Under 'personal information' choose "Change PIN".
  • You will need to enter your current PIN number and the new PIN you are changing it to.

For additional assistance feel free to contact our library staff at   907-283-4378   during our regular hours of operation.
