12TH ANNUAL CENTRAL PENINSULA WRITER'S present.....
Dear Central Peninsula Writer,
We invite
you to share your work with others at the 12th annual Central Peninsula Writer’s
present. The deadline for
submissions is 4 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2009. All entries must be
delivered to the Kenai Community Library or postmarked by that date and time.
Writer’s
Production is open to adult and high school writers who reside in the
central Kenai Peninsula, from Nikiski to Ninilchik to Cooper Landing and all
points in between. Central Peninsula Writer’s Group sponsor the event.
A selection
committee will read the submissions and select 12 to 16 writers to present
their work. All writers who are chosen will be notified at least two weeks
prior to the event. All writers who are selected must attend a rehearsal on
a date (to be announced) an evening or two before the event.
The selection
committee will choose writing samples from a mixture of genres, if possible.
All types of fiction, humor, essays, poetry, children’s fiction, children’s
poetry and creative non-fiction will be considered. Selections will be chosen
based on the quality of the writing, and the need for a well-balanced program,
representing several different writing styles. The writing also will be judged
on how suitable it is for reading before a live audience. Please
note there will be a strict 10-minute time limit, so write or
edit your work accordingly. Read it aloud before submitting to make sure it
falls within the allotted time. Simply ending when your time is up is
unacceptable, as is going over the allotted time. Reading an excerpt of a longer
piece is fine within the prescribed time line.
An official
submission form must be attached to the front of each submission. To keep the
selection process fair, your name should not appear on the writing sample,
only on the submission form. All entries will be “blind judged,” without
the selection committee knowing the author.
Writers
are limited to two entries in each genre (fiction and nonfiction) or up to
100 lines of poetry. Writers may submit in all three genres. A
submission form must accompany each entry. Submission forms are available at
the Kenai Community Library. Entries can be mailed to the address
below or dropped by the Kenai Community Library.
PLEASE
SUBMIT THREE (3) COPIES OF EACH ENTRY!
